About Me & My Blog:

“Building a life abroad takes time, effort and a decent amount of wine“

Hello and welcome to Not Quite Settled

I’m a semi-retired HR Director, full-time expat, and part-time philosopher on the oddities of life abroad. After a career spent managing people, leading projects, and flying many thousands of miles for business, I swapped boardrooms for beaches and policies for poolside chats.

Since stepping back from corporate life, I’ve lived in Malaysia and now Mauritius—two vastly different places united by one truth: integration is never as simple as the PowerPoint says. Whether it’s blending cultures, making friends in later life, or learning the hard way that local living is not the same as local luxury, I write about it all here—with honesty, curiosity, and a decent dose of dry humour.

This space began as a way to keep in touch with a few close friends, but like all good conversation it’s grown. My posts are where I reflect on the sometimes chaotic, often hilarious, and always unexpected journey of life after work. Think of it as part social commentary, part travel diary, part therapy session—with occasional insights into human nature, expat living, and the fine art of adapting without loosing your mind – or sense of humour.
